This pictured wood version was made for a 3 year Meow Wolf installation. It was painted and hung upside-down from the ceiling of a dark room that was devoted to sound and contemplation. 3+ hours of audio included the work of over 40 musicians and seniors in end-of-life care, from the artist group Life Songs. Rays is a familiar form, a starburst, the way many things grow, lines of light moving out from a point.
Rays night
The following video depicts a mirrored stainless steel version of Rays. It is also imagined in glass and other mediums, still or kinetic, 16’ to 30’ tall—a translucent or mirrored wall/ceiling of a building, hospital or museum. The video partially illustrates how any movement around it will reflect and animate it, in the light or dark. It is meant to be different sizes and variations, ideally with 2 to 10 times as many rays/segments than pictured here. Similar in form to Jay Defeo’s Rose.
