Vitrail was commissioned for Art on the Streets, a year long series of installations in Downtown Colorado Springs. BJM collaborated on the fabrication with Mitch Berg at Fuego, in the South Valley of Albuquerque.
Cut sheet metal on cables. 2020
I drew Vitrail by hand on 30’ of cardboard. Metal was then cut out from the drawn shapes. I would like to execute a piece similar to this original illustration, achieved by digitally mapping the design and laser-cutting metal.
Ten years to the day after my first trip to the ER I found myself making a largescale drawing of Vitrail. In my hospital room a decade earlier, the only thing that visually brought me comfort was the window on the far side of the room. Vitrail means stained glass window.
